Isopropyl myristate 822102 Merck
ایزوپروپیل الکل یا ایزوپروپانول، یک الکل آلی شفاف است و بویی تیز نزدیک به استون دارد. این الکل به علت خاصیت ضد باکتری آن شناخته می شود؛ به همین دلیل در بسیاری از ضدعفونی کننده ها و شوینده ها استفاده می شود. همچنین از ایزوپروپیل الکل با غلظت 70% در ضدعفونی کننده ها و محلول های پزشکی استفاده می شود. ایزوپروپیل الکل در تولید برخی از عطرها، صابون ها و شوینده ها نیز کاربرد دارد. ایزوپروپیل الکل بسیاری از ترکیبات غیر قطبی را حل می کند و با آب نیز امتزاج پذیر است ولی در محلول های نمکی حل نمی شود. این الکل برای پلاستیک ها و لاستیک ها خاصیت خورنده دارد.
خوردن ایزوپروپیل الکل مسمومیت به همراه دارد و در صورت تماس با چشم باعث قرمزی و التهاب چشم میشود. استنشاق بخارات آن باعث گلو، بینی و به طور کلی دستگاه تنفسی را تحریک میکند. این ماده بسیار آتشگیر است و در دماهای بسیار پایین با کوچکترین جرقه ایجاد حریق میکند.
